It's Not Too Early To Join Growing Power's Urban Farm Market

Green City 8.jpg Before we know it farms throughout the Midwest will start the seeds that will lead to a new harvest come spring, summer and autumn, if they haven’t already. Community sponsored agriculture programs (CSAs) have become more popular as farmers markets proliferate across the area and have become a more popular option for people looking for the freshest vegetables available and more people on SNAP assistance are able to use their allotments at farmers markets.

The folks at Growing Power have put together an “Urban Farm Market Club,” a CSA program with a few differences. First, there isn’t a large upfront fee to join—it only costs $25. Second, you can buy produce at your leisure, so you aren’t wasting money or time by not making your way to one of Growing Power’s pickup locations every week. Finally, you get to choose the produce you get to take home; there will be no surprise additions of kale or arugula if you don’t want it.

Growing Power currently has two locations to pick up the produce, at their Iron Street Farms in Bridgeport and Chicago Urban Lights Farm (444 W. Chicago Ave.). As more people join the club, more locations will be announced. To become a member, click here and fill out the application.
