During an interview on CBS News, Newt Gingrich called Chicago "the murder capital of the United States," adding, "If gun control works, Chicago ought to be safe." Gingrich said:

Well, I think it's amazing that we're having all this discussion about gun control. The President's hometown of Chicago is the murder capital of the United States. Over 500 people were killed there last year. Vice President Biden doesn't seem to want to go there. I'm trying to get the House Republicans to hold hearings there. It's illegal to have all the guns that are killing people in Chicago. If gun control works, Chicago ought to be safe.

Last week, Gingrich appeared on Anderson Cooper's AC360 called Chicago the "deadliest city in America," while arguing Vice President Joe Biden should visit Chicago, "a city whose laws on paper are terrific, but whose reality has really been pretty disastrous."

"Chicago has very strict gun laws; it is also the deadliest city in America where 500 people were killed in Chicago last year," Gingrich said.

Keep listening to that interview after Gingrich finishes talking about Chicago because Gingrich goes on to say some ridiculous things about armed guards in schools and automatic weapons.
