The Bears introduced new head coach Marc Trestman to media this morning. (Ed. Note: See our Storify timeline of the press conference below.—CS) Since news of Trestman's hiring broke Wednesday he and Bears GM Phil Emery have been working furiously to round out the team's coaching staff.
The first hire announced was Aaron Kromer as offensive coordinator and line coach. Kromer served as interim head coach of the New Orleans Saints for the first six games of 2012 while Sean Peyton and Joe Vitt were serving suspensions related to the bounty scandal. Trestman is familiar with Kromer, as the two coached together for three years in Oakland. Kromer also has local ties, having coached the offensive line at Northwestern under Randy Walker.
To replace the recently departed Dave Toub, the Bears have hired Joe DeCamillis as special teams coordinator and assistant head coach. DeCamillis, who made the Bears' initial list of head coaching candidates, come to the team after serving as the Dallas Cowboys' special teams coordinator.
The Bears are in the market for a new defensive coordinator after Trestman confirmed Rod Marinelli would not return to the team. Marinelli is expected to reunite with Monte Kiffin in Dallas.
Trestman's hiring makes him the only current Jewish head coach in the NFL and the fourth in league history.
