Help Slagel Farms' 'Chicken Freedom Project' By Eating Chili

2012_11_14_ChickenFreedome.png Last November, Slagel Farms (one of our favorite local, sustainable meat producers) announced the "Chicken Freedom Project." They decided to buy an industrial chicken farming operation and convert it to cage-free, organic chicken production. This will allow them to ramp up production to meet the high demand for their products. However, they are a small operation and this is an expensive undertaking. Now, some of Chicago's best chefs are coming together to help them out.

Next Monday, Jan. 28, Red Door is hosting a chili-cookoff to benefit Slagel Farms and the Chicken Freedom Project. Some serious cooking talent is coming together to make chili, including Mark Steuer (Carriage House), John Manion (La Sirena Clandestina), Eric Mansavage (Farmhouse), Rob and Allie Levitt (The Butcher & Larder), Art and Chelsea Jackson (Pleasant House Bakery) and more. For $25, taste all the chilis and get one cocktail, sponsored by Olmeca Altos tequila.

The fun kicks off at 6 p.m. Buy tickets online or at the door.

Red Door is located at 2118 N. Damen Avenue.
