Police Rescue Dog From Ice On Lake Michigan

By Samantha Abernethy in News on Jan 22, 2013 8:45PM

Chicago's Marine Police Unit saved a dog that had wandered out onto the ice on Lake Michigan near Jackson Park Harbor. The black dog was seen running around on the ice this morning. At one point it nearly came back to shore, but it was frightened by the rescuers, and wandered further out onto the ice.

Eventually, around 10:30 a.m. after a two- to three-hour standoff, rescuers managed to sedate the pup and bring him safely to shore. The dog is now with Chicago Animal Care & Control, who are trying to find the owners. The dog did not have a collar, tags, or an identification microchip. See footage of the rescue below from NBC, ABC and CBS.
