Soon train aficionados, like Chicagoist Food and Drink editor Anthony Todd, will be able to experience the luxury of traveling in a Pullman car in the modern day. Pullman Rail Journeys will begin offering twice-weekly service on Amtrak's City of New Orleans line beginning March 29.
The company promises attention to detail in bringing passengers the most "historically accurate" Pullman experience possible. DNAInfo Chicago's Casey Cora spoke with Dan Traynor, executive chef for Pullman Rail Journeys, who researched menus and cookbooks published by old railroad companies in creating the menu's for the Chicago-to-New Orleans trips. Traynor called Pullman cars "the four-and five-star restaurants of their time."
Trips aboard Pullman Rail Journeys cars start at $500 and run up to $2,850 per person, depending on the amenities. Another modern twist: The Coffee served on the trips will be roasted by Bridgeport Coffee Company.
