There’s no denying it: We have a thing for Archie Powell & The Exports. These Chicago rockers have a playful spirit and a knack for quirky rock melodies, and they seem like some genuinely nice dudes—the kind you want to buy a drink after the show or bring home to your mom. Oh, and they do stuff like tomorrow night’s event—the band will headline a Sandy Hook relief show to benefit the families of the Newtown shooting.
A few other bands are pitching in as well: local rockers Mutts and Brother George perform, and Cincinnati country-punk act 500 Miles to Memphis will also take the stage. Proceeds from the show will go to the My Sandy Hook Family Fund (tickets are $8), and the show’s promoters, Vicarious Venues, will match whatever amount AP&E raise.
The Sandy Hook relief benefit is Friday, Jan. 25 at Goose Island Wrigleyville, 3535 N Clark, 9 p.m., $8, 21+
