Coyotes Break Glass Door To Chase Puppy Into Home

By Samantha Abernethy in News on Jan 25, 2013 11:20PM

A pack of coyotes broke a glass door at a Riverside, Ill., home while trying to attack a German shepherd puppy. The owner said the puppy was outside with his two other dogs, a beagle and a golden retriever, just after 1 a.m. Friday morning when he heard a commotion and saw four coyotes.

CBS writes:

The man called to his pet and the puppy came running, but so did the coyotes — pursuing the dog up onto the wooden deck of the home, police said. The man quickly let the dog in, but the coyotes followed and began to paw at the rear glass door of the home, trying to get at the barking puppy.

The coyotes were finally scared away when the dog’s owner fired a high-powered BB gun at them, striking two of them, police said. The dogs were unharmed.

None of the dogs were harmed. A police sergeant said this is the first time he's ever heard of coyotes trying to get into a home.
