A 32-year-old Chicago woman was shot multiple times and killed while driving on Lake Shore Drive early Friday morning.
Police say she was driving a van on the ramp from LSD to I-55 around 4:20 a.m. when a van pulled up and fired at the car 10 to 14 times. Another woman in the car was unharmed.
"A brown full-sized van approached in the left lane," Illinois State Police Capt. Luis Gutierrez said, according to the Tribune. "That vehicle shot at our victim approximately 10 to 14 rounds. One round struck our driver, who is now deceased at Northwestern (Memorial Hospital)."
No other cars were involved in the crash. Police are still looking for the shooter. The Tribune has photos from the scene. The southbound ramp from LSD to I-94 and I-55 was shut down for several hours.
UPDATE (9:25 a.m.): According to the Sun-Times, investigators believe the shooting was related to “drug and gang activity.” Investigators say the woman's body was "riddled with bullets."
