Devin Hester's 'Confusing' Offseason Continues

Devin Hester could use a friend right about now. The Bears kickoff returner and wide receiver had a heart-to-heart with the Tribune’s Vaughn McClure where he indicated he could possibly use a change of scenery.
Hester hasn’t been anywhere near the return threat he was earlier in his career and didn’t handle Lovie Smith’s firing very well, indicating he was pondering retirement after GM Phil Emery let Smith go on New Year's Day. A month later Hester backed off that threat, but did tell McClure he wants to play two or three more seasons before he hangs up his cleats.
He also said he doesn’t mind if he isn’t a Bear.
"At the same time, I think I do need a fresh start.''
Hester caught a career-high 57 receptions in 2009, but the Bears’ attempts to turn him into a top-line receiver wound up adversely affecting his return game. The arrival of Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery means the team no longer has to slot Hester into a position for which he isn’t suited. Asked about a trade, Hester said “It’s a possibility. I'm loyal to my team. But the fans and my teammates have to understand where I'm coming from.”
New Bears special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis has a project on his hands in Hester and has already reached out to him in order to help rebuild his confidence. Hester told McClure he wouldn’t mind strictly handling returns if he stayed with the Bears.
