Over the two-plus years Art Shay has shared his photos and words on Chicagoist we’ve become well-familiarized with his viewpoint of the love affair between Nelson Algren and Simone de Beauvoir; it’s as though we were there with Art that fateful day he photographed an au naturale Simone in that Wicker Park boarding house bathroom six decades ago.

Algren’s relationship with de Beauvoir and the love triangle between the two of them and Jean-Paul Sartre is the focus of Simone and Nelson in Love (In English & French) a new exhibit at the Alliance Francaise de Chicago 6:30 p.m. Feb. 13 that will feature Art’s photos and a reading of excerpts from letters written by de Beauvoir to Algren and Sartre. Guests attending the exhibit will also get to meet and hear Art and we promise he won’t disappoint with his recollections of his best friend and the French feminist and philosopher.

The Alliance Francaise de Chicago is located at 54 W. Chicago Avenue
