Champion drinker Patrick Kane has come out of the gates in this shortened NHL season playing like a man possessed and the Blackhawks winger was awarded the NHL's "First Star" of the Week.

Kane led all players with five goals and an assist, scored goals in five straight games, has a six-game scoring streak, is second in the league in scoring with 19 points (nine goals, 10 assists) and has generally skated and passed the puck like a whirling dervish, as his Sportscenter highlight pass to Marian Hossa for the game winner against Dallas a couple weeks back showed.

Kane, like many NHL players, went to Europe during the lockout and skated for Swiss National League A team EHC Biel. He's shown no rust in this truncated season as the Blackhawks have rolled to a 10-0-2 start to the season. Marian Hossa and Jonathan Toews were also worthy candidates to be named Stars of the Week and the play of the teams core players has been a major factor in Chicago's hot start.

Dallas Stars winger Jamie Benn was named "Second Star" of the Week. New Jersey goalie Martin Brodeur earned "Third Star" honors.
