City, Expo Chicago Announces Expo Art Week

Last year’s Expo Chicago proved to be such a success that it will now serve as the centerpiece for a weeklong showcase of contemporary and modern art.
Expo Chicago is partnering with the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and Choose Chicago, the city’s tourism arm, to launch Expo Art Week Sept. 16-22. In addition to the Sept. 19-22 Expo Chicago at Navy Pier, Expo Art Week will include programming and special events across the city. The Art Institute of Chicago’s “Impressionism, Fashion, and Modernity” and “Zarina: Paper Like Skin” exhibits will be featured, as will the Museum of Contemporary Art’s “Theaster Gates: 13thBallad.” Other partner organizations and galleries include ACRE Residency, Chicago Architectural Foundation, Chicago Artists’ Coalition, Hyde Park Art Center, The Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Smart Museum of Art at the University of Chicago, threewalls.
Chicago’s major cultural institutions such as Steppenwolf Theatre, Goodman Theatre, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and River North Dance Chicago will serve as performance partners, offering free and VIP programming.
DCASE commissioner Michelle Boone said in a statement announcing the partnership, “With the broader experience of EXPO ART WEEK, residents ofChicago as well as visitors from around the world can take advantage of the incredible talent and artistry on display.””
