It’s been nearly 17 months since Frank “The Sodfather” Balestri held his fifth annual sopressata contest, but we’re going to let him have calling the upcoming April 7 competition the “sixth annual” supersod competition.
Balestri, readers will remember, is the most visible of a growing group of local folks who make Calabrian-style salami at home and the 2011 contest drew over 700 people to a union banquet hall in Countryside to sample over 50 different “sods,” with family recipes being passed down to a younger generation with zeal.
Tickets are now on sale for the event by calling Parkplace of Countryside Banquets at 708-588-1756. Proceeds from the event will benefit The 100 Club of Chicago and the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation.
