For the first time in nearly four years Drew Peterson no longer calls Will County Jail home. The former Bolingbrook police officer with the unique kavorka was transferred to Stateville Correctional Center near Joliet Friday.

Peterson, who shouted his innocence in the 2004 death of his third wife Kathleen Savio to anyone who would listen in the courtroom Thursday, will only be there temporarily and will undergo medical and psychiatric evaluations there before he's assigned to a state prison to serve out the 38 year prison term imposed on him by Will County Judge Edward Burmila.

Doctors at Stateville will find Peterson to be very proactive about his health concerns. He's complained to have contracted two bouts of skin cancer while developing high cholesterol and high blood pressure since he was placed in Will County Jail four years ago. If Peterson doesn't get those conditions treated he could die in prison without a successful appeal, if he serves out his entire sentence.
