The 1980 cult horror classic Basket Case follows the trail of blood left behind by a pair of separated conjoined twins seeking revenge against the team of doctors who separated them. The deformed twin, who's carried around in a basket by his normal looking brother, was particularly incensed at the separation. Basket Case eventually spawned two sequels, but director Frank Henenlotter was always reluctant to classify the films as horror movies. Instead, he called them "exploitation filmmaking" for their combination of gore, splatter and low-grade comedy. (Henenlotter does make a convincing case.)
Henenlotter will be on hand for a screening of all three Basket Case 7 p.m. March 8 at the Portage Theater. Tickets may be purchased online here.
