On Monday, two bullets pierced a window in a first-grade classroom at Joplin Elementary School in Auburn Gresham. There were 27 first graders in the room.

DNAInfo.com reports that Anthony Jamison was shooting at an 18-year-old. The 18-year-old was shot in the leg and two of the bullets ended up hitting the classroom window.

Cook County Assistant States Attorney Lorraine Scaduto said that a witness told police a man in a yellow jacket fired the shots, and police found Jamison at the home of Devin Pettis, where he was wearing a yellow jacket.

Jamison allegedly "dumped" three guns at Pettis' house after the shooting, telling Pettis "this s--- is hot," Scaduto said.

Jamison, of the 8800 block of South Jeffery Boulevard, is charged with aggravated battery and discharge of a firearm near a school.

Pettis, of the 2100 block of West 77th Place, faces three counts of unauthorized use of a weapon by a felon, having a firearm and ammunition without a valid license, and possession of an unregistered firearm.

None of the children were injured, and parents are concerned that the school didn't offer many details about what happened. Via DNAInfo.com:

Parents received a letter this week, but it only stated that there was "an incident" at the school, said Sunserai Evans, who has 3-year-old and a 5-year-old attending Head Start in the building.

"We regret to inform you that a violent incident occurred in the proximity of the school building on Monday, March 4, 2013," Principal Alene Mason wrote in the letter. "I am sure that this event has raised serious concerns for the entire school community, especially in our students.
"Be assured that we are doing everything we can to provide for the physical and emotional safety of your student while in our care," Mason wrote.

Joplin officials would not comment on Friday. Chicago Public School's district spokesman David Miranda said, "Joplin School officials took appropriate measures to protect the safety of its students Monday and no students or staff were injured. As always, we continue to work with police and others to ensure that our students have a safe and secure learning environment."

Jamison is being held without bail.
