Anthrax Gets All Big Eyed Over Cheap Trick

By Tankboy in Arts & Entertainment on Mar 11, 2013 7:40PM

We've always had a soft spot for Anthrax's cover of Public Enemy's "Bring the Noise" so it's no surprise that the band can produce a solid cover. And the fact they covered Public Enemy made total sense since at times the sound-beds underneath their hip-hop anthem were just as, if not more, aggressive than Anthrax's thrash.

Anthrax is releasing a new EP of covers and this time around it includes the classic Cheap Trick song "Big Eyes." Again, Anthrax covering Cheap Trick isn't exactly new since they did so in 1992 with vocalist John Bush when they tackled "Auf Wiedersehen." It is curious that the album it appeared on ushered out classic Anthrax vocalist Joey Belladonna, so it's with no small amount of excitement that we enjoy hearing his take on a tune from the Rockford heroes catalog.

Personally, we're loving Belladonna's channeling of Cheap Trick over Bush's.

No word yet on whether Rick Nielsen's pizza joint Piece will be catering Anthrax's appearance when they play House of Blues on April 5.
