2013_3_11_Fermentation.jpg The Good Food Festival is this weekend, and we're already getting ready. We've circled our favorite vendors in the program, scheduled out our workshops and demos and figured out which speakers we want to stalk. If you haven't been quite so on top of things, we have got the perfect prize for you: A whole giveaway package for "The Art of Fermentation" workshop by renowned fermenter Sandor Katz.

In addition to the big festival room, there are several separate break-out sessions at the Good Food Festival. One of them is this workshop, running from 9 a.m. to 12 a.m. on Saturday. If you're into picking, canning, fermenting, brewing or any other type of homemade food, you are guaranteed to find this fascinating. Katz will demonstrate various fermentation techniques, speak about his experiences and travels and hawk his newest book, "The Art of Fermentation."

Tickets cost $75 each, but we've got two to give away. These tickets get you access to the Saturday main festival, admission to the Art of Fermentation Workshop and a copy of The Art of Fermentation. Just to get your preserving juices flowing, we're also throwing in a copy of Paul Virant's The Preservation Kitchen. What a deal! Even better, both authors will be at the Good Food Festival to sign your books.

To enter, email tips@chicagoist.com. Please put "Good Food Festival" in the subject line and give us your name and phone number. We'll take entries until Tuesday at 5 p.m. and get in touch with you. And if you want to be sure to get into the festival, go buy some general admission tickets. They're only $10 each if you buy them in advance, and they'll buy you a whole day of fun, food and farming.
