An Oasis Of Green At Navy Pier

By Anthony Todd in Food on Mar 18, 2013 7:00PM

This past weekend, we attended the Chicago Flower and Garden Show at Navy Pier. We weren't quite sure what to expect, and we certainly didn't expect the breathtaking spectacle that confronted visitors. We walked inside the pier during a minor snowstorm and found a verdant jungle.

Most of the show was taken up by the display gardens. These weren't just booths but huge, yard-sized lawns and gardens, replete with fountains, art, sculpture and flowers. Seeing fields of tulips certainly helped us out of our winter blues. There was even a cake competition!

The Peterson Garden Project had a huge display as well; the only community garden to participate. They showed off model vegetable gardens from several of their spaces, as well as a gallery of Victory Garden ads and posters from World War II. It definitely inspired us to get out in the garden - just as soon as the snow finally stops.

The garden show is over for next year, but be absolutely sure to attend next year. While you wait, let these photos brighten up your day.
