Cubs Special Promotions Include Singles Night, Oktoberfest, 'Zubazapalooza'

We know the Cubs have some work to do to keep Wrigley Field’s turnstiles spinning this season and a glance of some of their special ticket promotions for the coming year show no signs of backing away from Wrigley’s title as Chicago’s Largest Beer Garden.

The choice for our favorite promotion has to be “Zubazapalooza” Sept. 25 in the Budweiser Bleachers. A ticket for that includes a pair of these glorified pajama bottoms in Cubs colors. All that’s missing is a fanny pack and 100 milligrams of Winstrol and you can head to the gym for a 1991-style workout. To quote Zubaz’s motto: “Embrace the awesomeness.”

Then there’s Singles Night in the bleachers Aug. 1, which gets you a special T-shirt “to let other singles know that you are ready to mingle!” How is this different from any other game in the bleachers, we have no idea. For those of you who didn’t get enough drunken obnoxiousness over the weekend, buy a ticket for Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day (Sept. 2, comes with a Kelly green Cubs hat) or Oktoberfest (Sept. 24, with a collectible Cubs stein — we’re actually down for that.)

The Cubs need to fill the seats any way they can and, with the team in a rebuilding phase, we can’t really fault them for these promotions. Especially after looking at some of the events scheduled for the White Sox this season. They have their own Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day Sept. 14. But we’re having a hard time getting motivated for their Nut Allergy Awareness Games, Mother Son and Father Daughter Nights, and Gluten-Free Celiac Awareness Night Sept. 28. If you want to see why the Cubs consistently trump the Sox at the gate, look no further.
