Seder
Two years ago City Winery previewed what it had in store for Chicago with a Downtown Seder at the Chicago Cultural Center. This year they're shifting things over to their new Randolph Street complex 7 p.m. March 20. An evening of food, frivolity and wine, City Winery's Downtown Seder will find guests seated at long, communal tables set with traditional Passover foods. Among the acts performing at the Seder are comedian Aaron Freeman, musician Corky Siegel, the Maxwell Street Klezmer Band Trio, Jewmongous, the Listen Up! Jewish Vocal Band and David Broza. As of post time, plenty of seats were still available. Reserve yours here. (1200 W. Randolph St., $70-$140.)
Competitive Storytelling
Paper Machete "Dean of Mean" Ian Belknap is the founder and host of Write Club, a regular series pitting storytellers, comedians and writers in a storytelling death match. Participants "fight" each other on opposing concepts (e.g. "good" and "evil;" "love" and "hate") for prize money for their favored charities. The March 19 bout at Hideout pits Carly Oishi ("Water") vs. Patrick Gill ("Wine"), Joe Janes ("Drunk") vs. Janna Sobel ("Sober"), and Belknap ("Shaken") vs. Jennifer Coffeen ("Stirred"). (1354 W. Wabansia, $10, 21+.)
