EchoDroides Drop New EP On The Dance World

Now days, when someone tells you about a dance music artist, it's not uncommon to immediately envision some barely legal DJ behind the decks of a laser-clad stage liberally dropping the bass. This is not always the case.
There are still plenty of Chicagoans making the same kind of dance music that's been in rotation at "I heart the '80s" clubs like Neo and Berlin for decades. And, apparently, music lovers are still eating it up. When locally based duo EchoDroides released their newest EP Horizon this month, it wound up at number one on Amazon's disco music chart. The four-track record is a synthy throwback to hugely influential predecessors like Depeche Mode and New Order.
Singer Frank De La Mora deserves a special mention for his performance on this EP. Upon stepping outside of the (literally) soft-spoken parameters that the nu disco genre generally dictates, his vocals soar especially high.
EchoDroides play their first show following their EP release this Wednesday, March 27, at the Double Door with Heloise & The Savior Faire and Shuteye. Tickets are $7 and the show starts at 8:30 p.m.
