The Illinois Department of Transportation has been working with the Active Transportation Alliance, Trailnet, HeartLands Conservancy, MetroQuest and Alta Planning + Design on the state's first bicycle transportation plan. (Alta Planning + Design is the parent company of Alta Bicycle Share, the company chosen by the City to launch its bike sharing program.)

But the plan needs your help and IDOT has set up an online survey that takes less than a minute to complete. Whether your interests in the plan involves land use and development projects like rails to trails conversions, education and outreach regarding bicycling laws, designing and funding bike infrastructure projects or connecting bike networks to make them easier to access public transit, make your voice heard. Hopefully the information they gather will go toward reducing doorings like the case of Dustin Valenta and reduce the tensions between motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists.
