The return of winter 2013 after a balmy 2012 resulted in an increase in flight cancellations across the country in January and February. Both of Chicago's airports were hit particularly hard in on-time flight arrivals, although your chances are still greater your flight will be on time at Midway than O'Hare.

Midway Airport, which ranked third-best among U.S. airports in February 2012 with 89.55 percent of its flights arriving on time, dropped to 10th in February 2013, with 82.67 percent of its flights arriving on time. Your chances of having your flight canceled at O'Hare Airport are much greater. O'Hare ranked worst among the nation's airports in on-time flight arrivals, with only 66.57 percent of flights departing the airport on time last month. For the first two months of 2013, O'Hare's on-time flight arrival percentage was at 70 percent; Midway's was at 83 percent.

This morning's weather isn't helping matters at O'Hare. The City Department of Aviation (via the Sun-Times) reported 75 flights were canceled this morning and other flights saw delays of 30 minutes or longer.

A flight is considered on time if it arrives within 15 minutes of its scheduled arrival. Airlines face hefty fines if their flights are significantly late.
