Kickstarter Project BikeSpike Will Help Recover Stolen Bikes

A Chicago-based Kickstarter campaign has just reached its funding goal for BikeSpike, a device with a GPS tracker that follows your bike if it's been stolen and alerts your family or friends if you've been in a bike accident.

The campaign met its $150,000 goal for funding on April 9, and $2,631 has been pledged on top of that amount.

The device uses "the world's smallest GPS chipset with a built-in antenna, an on-board accelerometer, and a connection to a global cellular network," which will let users monitor the bike's location using a phone or computer and grant access to law enforcement to improve chances for bike recovery if it's been stolen. The device will also share distance and speed stats and send messages to people in your contact list if it detects a collision.
