Retired Chicago Cop Accidentally Shoots Himself At Boy Scout Meeting

A retired Chicago police officer was visiting with his grandson's Boy Scout troop at a Des Plaines school when he dropped his gun, accidentally shooting himself in the leg.
The man remains unnamed, but he has been identified as the troop leader of Des Plaines Troop 38. He had his licensed and loaded firearm in a fanny pack during the Troop meeting at the elementary school around 9 p.m. on Monday.
According to the Daily Herald, As the meeting ended, parents and Boy Scouts left, and that's when the man dropped the fanny pack, and the gun landed on its hammer, discharging. No one else was injured.
According to the Tribune, police did not file charges because no laws were broken, but the school said in a letter, "Of course, the district does not condone bringing firearms on school grounds."
