Last Minute Plans: Natural Resources Defense Council Brewers For Clean Water Beer Tasting
By Lorna Juett in Food on Apr 22, 2013 7:00PM
While the finest hops, barley, the most interesting yeast strains and a great recipe are important elements of a great beer, the most important ingredient is fresh, clean water. Here in the midwest, we have a vast freshwater resource in Lake Michigan, as well as our many rivers, streams, and groundwater stores. To help safeguard the midwest’s future as a craft beer powerhouse, and to protect drinking water, several local breweries have signed the Clean Water Pledge and have teamed up with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) to help support the Clean Water Act.
The entire list of brewers, and videos outlining each brewery's commitment, is availablehere, but tonight you can do one better and actually taste beers from local pledge signers at tonight’s NRDC beer tasting at Galleria Marchetti. Starting at 6:00 p.m., beers from Finch’s, Flossmoor Station, Goose Island, Half Acre, Revolution, and Wild Onion will be poured, alongside Wild Ophelia chocolates from Vosges and catered appetizers. Tickets are $50 and can only be purchased at the door.
Yes, we know it’s Earth Day, but this kind of event is relevant on any day of the year. Take a peek at the video below to learn more about the participating breweries across the country.
Galleria Marchetti is located at 825 West Erie Street
