Currently flights at Midway and O'Hare International Airports are on time, but Chicago's two airports are preparing for delays of up to 50 minutes later this week after cuts to air traffic controller staffing as a result of sequestration cuts went into effect Sunday.
According to the Tribune, New York's LaGuardia and DC's Reagan International have been hardest hit so far, with delays of over an hour. Los Angeles International saw two-hour delays Sunday night, and Newark saw significant delays, but none of them were blamed on staffing cuts.
In Illinois, five control towers are set to close and pilots will coordinate takeoffs and landings via a shared radio frequency.
