Lagunitas To Add Second Chicago Brewhouse

Lagunitas owner Tony Magee said the taproom slated for the Douglas Park brew works, originally scheduled to open in June, has been postponed to August. Part of the reason is because Lagunitas is building a second brewhouse in their 300,000 square-foot facility, giving the brewery the capability to brew up to 1.7 million barrels of beer annually when they start mashing in later this year. Lagunitas was already set to become the largest brewery in Chicago when they opened. Combined with the 700,000 barrels they brew in their California facility, the total of 2.4 million combined barrels would make Lagunitas the second-largest craft brewery in the country, behind the Boston Beer Company (aka Sam Adams).

As for the taproom, Magee tells DNAInfo it's being built so that it rises 26 feet above the brew works, giving guests a view of the brewery in operation. Now that would be cool to see.
