Mister Lies Takes On Tour, New Project

Mister Lies only stepped onto Chicago’s music scene last summer, but this solo artist (his given name is Nick Zanca) has been hard at work mesmerizing listeners with minimalist beats and seductive, shimmering grooves.
What we love about Zanca is that he’s a bedroom artist at heart (though he took to a cabin in the woods for his most recent release, Mowgli), and so his sounds are emotional and forlorn—a little peek into the heart of the lone wolf that is certainly Zanca’s spirit animal—but nowhere close to as cheesy as this sentence was.
Well, Mister Lies has a lot going on lately in particular. He announced that he’ll be heading out on tour with San Francisco dreampop artist, Giraffe, and they’ll be kicking things off right here in Chicago. The two perform at Schubas June 18 along with a yet-to-be-confirmed guest. Tickets go on sale tomorrow at noon.
In other Mister Lies news, the solo artist has kicked off another project in which he makes music under the name Wendybird. This project, which he took on during downtime while touring as Mister Lies, has him making even more slow-burning, downtempo sounds in the form of drone, ambient music. He’s already composed two short releases under this name—Berdache (After Reich) and Poem for Ramses—which you can check out over at Wendybird’s Bandcamp.
Mister Lies and Giraffe perform Tuesday, June 18 at Schubas, 3159 N Southport, 9 p.m., $15 in advance or $20 at the door, 18+
