Film

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is one of the greatest westerns of all time, with a cast including John Wayne, James Stewart, Vera Miles and Lee J. Cobb. You have two options to watch it, if you choose. You can view it on Netflix Instant or you can head to the Portage Theater May 1, where the Northwest Chicago Film Society is screening it in a 35 mm print, accompanied by a production featurette for the 1968 Charlton Heston western WILL PENNY, featuring a tour of the Paramount Studios armory. (4050 N. Milwaukee Ave., 7:30 p.m., $5.)

Public Planning Discussion

One of the Chicago Department of Transportation's upcoming projects is a protected bike lane on Milwaukee Avenue that would connect the Elston Avenue and Kinzie Street protected lanes. This stretch of Milwaukee is often referred to as the "Hipster Highway" for the large number of fixed-gear bicyclists that use it, but it is an increasingly popular option for cyclists looking for a fast commute to the Loop. CDOT is holding a neighborhood meeting 6:30 p.m. tonight at Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art to discuss the project and provide an overview of existing conditions, proposed design/cross-sections, and impacts to the roadway. Let your voice be heard. (756 N. Milwaukee Ave.)
