High-stakes drama takes over the Chicago stage this week.

Oklahoma

The Lyric Opera puts its own spin on the classic musical about feuding farmers and cowboys. And with Broadway vet Ashley Brown leading the charge, we’re not about to miss this grand venture. The show runs Saturday, May 4 through Sunday, May 19.

Lyric Opera of Chicago, 20 N. Wacker, 312-332-2244 or online.

The Pianist of Willesden Lane

The Royal George just announced an extension of its affecting show, a sort of musical quasi-memoir that tells the true story of a young Jewish pianist in WWII-era Europe. The show runs through Saturday, May 25.

The Royal George Theatre, 1641 N. Halsted, 312-988-9000 or online.

Lascivious Something

Inspired by the great Greek tragedies, Lascivious Something is a steamy, dramatic tale of a vineyard-owning couple confronted by a former lover. Add in a little winemaking (and wine-drinking), and let the character study begin. The show runs Saturday, May 4 through Saturday, June 8.

Signal Ensemble Theatre, 1802 W. Berenice Ave., 773-698-7389 or online.
