Let’s Explore Diabetes With Owls is another winning collection of essays from David Sedaris connected by a theme of travel. Sedaris posts dispatches in cities across the globe while expounding on a wide range of topic old (politics, religion, family) and new (gay marriage, the differences in the health care systems in America and Europe, life at 50).

Sedaris is currently on a book tour to promote Let’s Explore Diabetes With Owls but he returns for an evening of reading from and signing copies of the book 8 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Auditorium Theatre. Sedaris spent some of his formative writing years in Chicago as a student at the Art Institute of Chicago and was given his first break by Ira Glass, who invited Sedaris to contribute to his pre-This American Life radio show, The Wild Room. Sedaris, in a 2004 New York Times interview, said, “My life just changed completely, like someone waved a magic wand,” after Glass produced his reading of The Santaland Diaries, about his time as a holiday elf at Macy’s in New York City.

Tickets to Sedaris’s Nov. 2 performance go on sale 10 a.m. May 17. (A pre-sale that started Monday is already sold out.)
