Letherbee Distillers' special edition releases have already become cherished parts of our liquor collection. Last year, they released Autumnal Gin, a cinnamon and nutmeg-infused spirit that tasted like fall in a bottle. Now they've come out with Vernal Gin, a much lighter, fresher spirit perfect for summer tippling. There's a launch party next week.

The Vernal Gin, with a green version of the signature Letherbee label, has a fittingly green taste for a gin. It tastes much more like crushed up plants than the traditional juniper bomb of a dry gin, and with botanicals like prairie grass and chrysanthemum, it's not quite like any other gin in our collection. Only 80 cases were made; look for it at speciality retailers like Provenance Food and Wine or In fine Spirits.

Letherbee is hosting a launch party featuring both their Vernal Gin and their "R. Franklin Malort," which was created for the Violet Hour but we hope will be on sale at retail outlets soon. The party is on Monday, May 20 from 6p.m. until 9 p.m. at Scofflaw. There will be a cocktail with the Vernal Gin (the Vernal Negroni) on sale for $6 and pours of Malort for $3. The party itself is free. If you ask nicely, maybe the bartenders at Scofflaw can give you some other cocktail ideas for the new release.

Scofflaw is located at 3201 W. Armitage Avenue.
