7 Places To Take Your Yoga Poses Outdoors

As the weather heats up, so does the outdoor yoga circuit. We’ve rounded up some classes and events that take place outside (many for free!) for you to enjoy and expand your practice.

Sun and Moon Beach Yoga
Yoga Rocks The Park
Yoga Rocks The Park with live music every Sunday from Logan Square to Palmer Square with more locations to be announced. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Classes are $12 in advance, $15 at the park. First class is May 26.

Sun and Moon Beach Yoga
Sun and Moon offers sunrise and sunset vinyasa classes seven days a week on North Avenue Beach. A single class is $16, or spring for a season pass for $300. Other multiple class packs are also available. The season runs from May 24 to Sept. 2.

Yoga at the Zoo
Lincoln Park Zoo offers classes on the Nature Boardwalk for adults as well as parents & toddlers. Beginning on June 1, adult classes are on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, while the toddler class, which combines animal poses with nature exploration and storybook reading, is every Tuesday. They offer many different class passes with prices that vary, but the drop-in rate is $20. FREE intro classes are on June 1 and 2.

S.U.P. Yoga
S.U.P. Yoga
If you’re ambitious, you can try S.U.P. Yoga—that stands for Stand Up Paddleboarding—at Montrose beach and Hollywood beach every Sunday. The season begins June 2 at Montrose, and June 9 at Hollywood. Though yogis of all levels are encouraged to join, a SUP beginner lesson is recommended before your first class. For more information and pricing, visit their website.

Wanderlust Yoga In The City
Wanderlust is offering a day full of FREE classes in Grant Park’s Butler Field on June 2. Health Magazine will be on hand dispensing healthy snacks and advice, along with samples from LYFE Kitchen, LUNA and Avocados from Mexico. Think of it as a mini-version of Wanderlust’s energizing 4-day festivals. Be sure to register online, and then stick around after class for tunes from DJ Drez and MC Yogi.

Lululemon in the Park
Lululemon hosts FREE outdoor classes in Wicker Park on the first Monday of each summer month: June 3, July 1 and Aug. 5, and every Wednesday in Oz Park beginning next week.

Millennium Park
The City of Chicago’s DCASE presents FREE yoga classes, as well as Tai Chi, Pilates and Zumba, every Saturday morning throughout the summer on Millennium Park’s Great Lawn. Yoga begins at 8am, and each class lasts for 45 minutes. The season runs from June 8 to Sept. 7.
