In just a few short months, the nation's cocktail geeks, bartenders and journalists will flock south to Tales of the Cocktail, the largest convention for boozers. In addition to classes, lectures and lots of drinking, they give out some of the most prestigious awards in the cocktailing world. A number of our favorite bars have made the finals.
There are a number of different categories, and we didn't make it into every one of them. Apparently, Chicagoist isn't quite to the level of "Best Cocktail Writing" yet, but we'll get 'em next year. Mixologist Charles Joly of The Aviary was nominated for American Bartender of the Year, Bridget Albert was nominated for Best Bar Mentor and Sable cleaned up with nominations for Best High Volume Cocktail Bar and Best Hotel Bar. The complete list is here.
A surprising (and well deserved) addition to the list: Barrelhouse Flat got a nod for Best American Cocktail Bar. We'll be rooting for them. The final awards will be announced on July 20th.
