Since Memorial Day also serves as an unofficial kickoff to the spring/summer vacation season, here's silent video from a family's stay at a lakeside farmhouse in Herbster, Wisconsin, circa 1926. Herbster is an eight-hour drive from Chicago, nestled on Lake Superior. It was a logging town throughout the 20th century and nowadays serves as a popular camping and boating destination.
The video comes from Chicago Film Archives Susan H. and Charles P. Schwartz, Jr. Collection. The Schwartzes vacationed in Herbster, Lake Geneva, Wisc. and Charlevoix, Mich.
