For wine lovers in Chicago, Memorial Day signals the beginning of one of the best drinking seasons of the year. That’s when Nightwood offers one of the largest selections of rosé wines in the area, by the glass, until Memorial Day.

Rosés are often underappreciated and shown short shrift by people who have a bad glass of white zinfandel purchased at a supermarket and lump all pink wines together. The truth is rosés can be as complex in color, flavor and aroma as their red and white brethren. Served lightly chilled, rosés are an ideal summer sipper and pair well with grilled seafoods, fruit salads and spicy entrees. Nightwood happens to specialize in all those and more, and their rosé selections have something for every item on their ever-changing menu.

Every year since Nightwood opened, they’ve held a “Fête De Rosé” where they preview selections from each summer’s rosé list. This year’s festival is set for June 2 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. The cost is $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate so guests can enjoy these pink wines on Nightwood’s outdoor patio. Call 312-536-3385 to RSVP.
