Giardiniera is a classic Chicago condiment. Ok, we've heard it has something to do with Italy, but really, who cares? Most people in the United States identify it with our windy city, and now you can watch local cafe Real Kitchen make it from scratch.

Some of us are such hardcore giardinera addicts that we eat the stuff out of the jar and compare brands. But even we have never actually tried making and canning the stuff. We'll have to add it to the list of things that we can pickle. Until then, watch this beautiful movie made by Real Kitchen to document their newest project. We've never craved sage and crushed red pepper quite as much as we do right now. Just watch and you'll understand.

They're selling the spicy stuff on their deli counter for $8 a jar.

Real Kitchen is at 1433 W. Montrose.
