Sit through a hilarious deconstruction of opera or a splashy Kander and Ebb musical this week in Chicago theater.
If you didn’t catch Mary-Arrchie Theatre Co.’s production of The Glass Menagerie during its run at the Angel Island Theater this winter, you still have a chance to see director Hans Fleischmann’s quietly devastating remounted production at Theater Wit. Just don’t miss it this time around, okay? The show runs through Sunday, June 30.
Mary-Arrchie Theatre Co. at Theater Wit, 1229 W. Belmont, 773-975-8150 or online.
Kiss of the Spider Woman
Kander and Ebb’s gutsy, fantastical musical follows two cellmates who find themselves imprisoned during a time of harsh Latin American dictatorship — one a gay window dresser and the other a burly Marxist. The show runs through Sunday, June 30.
BoHo Theatre at Theater Wit, 1229 W. Belmont, 773-975-8150 or online.
The Second City Guide to the Opera
The Second City takes on the Lyric Opera — need we say more? Audience members will sit on-stage for a two-hour collaboration of high-art and, well, not-so-high art. The show runs through Sunday, June 30.
Lyric Opera, 20 N. Wacker Dr., 312-332-2244 or online.
