PAWS Chicago Receives 76 Pets From Tornado-Ravaged Oklahoma

Last Monday, 76 dogs and cats arrived in Chicago after 16 PAWS Chicago volunteers drove to Oklahoma City to pick up the animals from Oklahoma City Animal Care & Control. The center needed space for the animals that were separated from their owners during the tornado, so PAWS drove the animals to Chicago in eight vans, then gave them complete medical care, vaccinations, microchips, and spay/neuter surgeries. The animals were available to adopt starting last Monday, and 29 Oklahoma dogs were adopted the first day. Some are still in foster care to heal from illness or injury and will be put up for adoption soon.
Pets separated from their families during the tornado will stay at the Oklahoma City shelter for 30 days so their owners can find them. PAWS will return to Oklahoma in two weeks to take in more animals that were not reunited with their owners.
Here's a look at some of the Oklahoma cuties on their way to Chicago.
