Lollapalooza Announces Official Aftershows

By Tankboy in Arts & Entertainment on Jun 4, 2013 4:20PM

Lollapalooza just announced its official aftershow schedule and while it will please many, it holds no real surprises, a la The Foo Fighters at Metro a few years back. Most of the bands are playing venues that they usually would when they come through town outside Lollapalooza, so there are very few unexpected "up close and intimate" shows to get excited about. However all of the shows are a chance to see the bands play full sets in club environments instead of under strict time constraints while you're surrounded by 90,000 of your closest friends.

There are a few notable bills though. Our pick for kicking off the party weekend on Thursday, August 1, is Atlas Genius at Schubas. Their sound is already tested and true in big rooms and their dance rock should turn that small space into an energetic fun zone that night. Plus, you won't have been drinking in Grant Park all day so this is the show you will most likely remember.

Friday, Aug. 2, sees Jessie Ware in Lincoln Hall; a room that will treat her subtle sounds just right. Across town, Heartless Bastards plays City Winery, which is sure to be the loudest and rawest set that room has ever seen, so that's an interesting pairing (wine pun intended).

Baroness plays Subterranean on Saturday, Aug. 3, and their set there should do a fine job of waking everyone up from the all-day festival daze and plunge them into a sea of thick, heavy riffs. If teeth shattering metal isn't your thing, there are quite a few other fine shows that night including Frightened Rabbit with Wild Belle at Park West, and Two Door Cinema Club at House Of Blues.

Sunday, Aug. 4, is a toss-up for us since all three shows currently announced seem like good bets. Whether you choose Wavves at Empty Bottle, Palma Violets at Schubas or Alt-J at Lincoln Hall you're sure to end the weekend right.

The full list of shows is here, and tickets go on sale Friday, June 7 at 10 a.m.
