- Brendan Sodikoff has pulled yet another rabbit out of his hat full of restaurants. Back in March, the city auctioned off Maxim's, a classic Chicago restaurant that opened in 1963. The bidding was closed and secret, and Eater reported yesterday that Sodikoff, owner of Maude's Liquor Bar, Au Cheval and Doughnut Vault (among others) is the winning bidder. Even better, he's not planning on opening a new concept - he's going to restore the restaurant back to it's 1960s glory, including an original menu (though with "modern food standards"). This is seriously exciting, folks.
- Last week, one of the city's mainstay trendy restaurants, N9NE, closed for good after thirteen years. Turns out that Chef Michael Kornick owns the restaurant, and the liquor license runs for another year. We know that Kornick and his oft-partner David Morton have several more new concepts in the works - perhaps one will get slotted into this West Loop location.
- DNA Chicago reports that La Colombe cafe is opening a second Chicago location in Wicker Park. It will replace the Greener Cleaner location under the Damen Blue Line stop. Originally, the plan was to open in the vacant Skewerz space, but plans fell through. The cafe will open in November.
