The U.S. Supreme Court granted Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s request for more time to decide whether to appeal a December 2012 federal appeals court ruling declaring the state’s ban on concealed carry unconstitutional.
The Supreme Court granted Madigan a previous request in May. Gov. Pat Quinn wanted Madigan to appeal the ruling by the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, but Madigan wanted to see if the Illinois Legislature could draft a bill allowing for concealed carry in Illinois, the only state in the union without a concealed carry law. Earlier this month, a federal court granted Madigan a 30-day extension for Quinn to review the concealed carry bill passed by the Legislature. Quinn has until July 9 to act on the bill.
The Supreme Court extended Madigan’s deadline to July 22.
