The FBI’s search for former Teamsters boss Jimmy Hoffa’s body in a Michigan field earlier this week proved as futile as the tip the feds received from reputed mobster Anthony Zerilli that led them to take up shovels and dig. Now another theory has been floated that Hoffa’s body will never be found because it was turned into mulch.

A law enforcement source close to the investigation of Hoffa’s 1975 disappearance told DNAInfo New York Hoffa’s body was fed through a wood chipper after he was garroted by Anthony “Tony Pro” Provenzano. Provenzano was a high-ranking captain in the Genovese crime family with close ties to organized labor, including the Teamsters. It’s long been believed Hoffa was targeted by mobsters who didn’t want him to regain control of the union. Hoffa was last seen alive at Red Fox restaurant outside Detroit, where he was expected to meet with Provenzano and Detroit mobster Anthony Giacolone.

If the source is correct that means Hoffa’s body wasn’t buried under an end zone at Giants Stadium or tossed in the everglades or in a dump in New Jersey or a Japanese-made car or any of the rumored spots to be his final resting place over the years. But we’re certain that the feds will jump like a dog for a treat every time one of these aging gangsters says he knows without a doubt where Hoffa is buried. While they wait for the next tip that won’t pan out, we’ll be here watching Fargo.
