As the Chicago area braces for more storms this evening and overnight, ComEd is working to restore power to thousands of homes in its service area.

The Tribune reports there were 44,000 homes still without electricity after Monday’s derecho roared through the area—5,000 homes in the Chicago area alone. ComEd spokeswoman Martha Swaney told the Trib that at the storm’s peak Monday, close to 300,000 customers were without power.

ComEd has a handy map showing where outages have been reported (which may be useless for customers without power or smartphones). Customers may subscribe to receive outage alerts via text message. Over 650 ComEd crews are working to restore power as the National Weather Service has declared a flash flood watch through Wednesday evening.
