Blackhawks Buy Full-Page Newspaper Ad To Thank Bruins, Boston

While Chicago prepared for this morning's rally and parade honoring the Blackhawks' Stanley Cup title, the team published a full-page ad in the Boston Globe thanking the Boston Bruins for the challenge they posed in the Finals and the city of Boston for their support and sportsmanship they showed Chicagoans who traveled to the TD Garden for the series.
The letter, signed by Hawks owner Rocky Wirtz and team president John McDonough, contains this reference to the April Boston Marathon bombings:
"Like the rest of the world, Chicagoans have been reminded in recent days of Boston's strength. Please know we tip our hat to your city's big heart and gracious spirit. You lead by example and have set the bar very high for others to follow."
The letter is a classy move by the Blackhawks and serves as yet another example of how the team has become relevant again under Wirtz and McDonough. It wasn't that long ago when people around town would complain about why the Blackhawks weren't on television during the ownership of Wirtz's father, Bill. (Some Chicagoans are old enough to remember when Bill Wirtz refused to broadcast the first periods of Blackhawks games on radio in an attempt to drive fans to Chicago Stadium to buy tickets to games.) The difference in philosophy between the Wirtzes has the Blackhawks poised for sustained success.
