Brooklyn punk rockers Japanther offer up a fitting pop culture dichotomy on with the title of their latest album, Eat Like Lisa Act Like Bart. Founded in 2001 when Matt Reilly and Ian Vanek were art school students at Pratt Institute, the band is as well known for collaborating with renowned video artists and playing the Whitney Biennial as performing alongside synchronized swimmers or in the middle of the Williamsburg Bridge bike path. Sure Japanther has played the distinguished Lincoln Center, but they started a riot in the process.

Japanther has a playful attitude toward their art-punk experiments, but behind this is fervid, quick-hitting no wave. Fuzzy vocals are howled through old telephone receivers, while you’re throttled along by discordant guitar work. Japanther will smack you in the face with their catchy and severe brand of fine art.

Catch Japanther in Chicago tonight along with Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt at Schubas. Enjoy their video for “Something to Do,” which dropped last week.
