The Rev. Al Sharpton plans to rent an apartment on the West Side, temporarily, to help shine a national spotlight on the issues of violence in Chicago. Sharpton, head of the National Action Network, says he'll be working Rev. Ira Acree of Greater St. John church in the Austin neighborhood and other community leaders for a few months.
“We don’t have all the answers, but we need to raise all the questions publicly and consistently,” Sharpton told The Associated Press. “Consistent attention forces a consistent change.”
Sharpton plans to film his MSNBC show PoliticsNation and other television appearances in Chicago during his stay. His new book The Rejected Stone is due for release in October.
Sharpton said he will move to Chicago in September. He also said he and Martin Luther King III are organizing an anti-violence march in Chicago in August. Watch video below of Sharpton speaking at the Greater St. John church on Sunday.
